Musher Jan Steves from Edmonds, Washington, participated in her 2nd Iditarod in 2013, however, she had to abandon the race at Eagle Island due to concerns for her dog team. Her rookie race was in 2012, when she finished in 52nd place.

Jan Steves completed Iditarod 40 in 14 days, 11 hours and 57 minutes. She crossed the finish line in Nome in 53rd place with 9 dogs left on her team. Jan received the Red Lantern award, an honorary recognition for closing the race.

The 55 year old Musher came from Washington State to compete in her first Iditarod.
